Education Director with NYS Certification Birth-2

Seeking a qualified education director with New York State Teacher Certification (Birth to Grade 2) to join our leadership administrative team in overseeing a preschool with Mandarin immersion in downtown Manhattan. The candidate must have a proven track record of teaching young children in a licensed early childhood program in NY state. This is a great opportunity for an experienced early childhood teacher to move on to an administrative leadership position under the head of school. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are essential for this job in supporting both the administration and the teachers in writing student assessment reports, as well as in building strong relationships with the student families. We are a Mandarin immersion early childhood program; the ability to understand conversational Mandarin will be a strong plus in supporting the teaching team with Mandarin curriculum development.

Educational Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting student admissions and enrollment, which may include meeting potential families, hosting open houses, leading informational tours, reviewing student applications and supporting families through the enrollment process.

  • Fostering student families relations through effective communication via emails, phone calls, or in-person meetings.

  • Providing support and guidance for the families in helping their children succeed in our programs.

  • Observing all the classes and providing hands-on assistance as needed; identifying areas for improvement with constructive feedback.

  • Providing ex-missions support for student families seeking admissions to other schools, which include writing student reports and recommendation letters.

  • Supporting the overall curriculum development for different programs, supervising the teachers in lesson planning, and ensuring that all activities designed are age appropriate for each student group. 

  • Supporting the process of student assessment, which may include but not limited to student reports writing and supervision of Parent-Teacher meetings.

  • Supporting the interviewing, hiring, training, placement, supervision and ongoing evaluation of the teachers.

  • Creating a joyful and positive teaching environment, encouraging the teachers to be creative, upholding the highest teaching standards. 

Administrative Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the school environment is safe and clean at all times.

  • Ensuring the school is fully compliant with all local, state, and NYC DOHMH regulations and stays on top of all updates and changes.

  • Overseeing student safety protocols (such as student allergies, updated health forms, pick-up and drop-off policies) and record keeping processes (health logs, required DOH paperwork, family communication documents, etc).

  • Reviewing and updating program practices, policies and procedures based on any changes in regulations or demands.

  • Managing the school calendar and program schedules.

  • Providing timely educational content for the school website, social media, marketing and promotional materials.

  • Planning and executing events for the center:

- community & marketing events: open houses, education fairs, Lunar New Year Party, Parent Teacher Meeting Day, etc.
- bonding events and professional development workshops for staff.

  • Exploring potential educational partnerships that may help growth and branding.

Qualifications Required

  • NY State Department of Education Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth to Grade 2)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education 

  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience as a lead teacher in an Early Childhood Program (under 6 years old), preferably in New York City

  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccinations and immunizations required by DOH must be current

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written

  • Strong Plus: Conversational skills in Mandarin
