Ya Ya Mandarin Seeds in partnership with the New Asian Chamber Music Society is thrilled to invite you to a bilingual family concert to kick off the holiday season. This concert will feature artist Stephanie Chou who will share the magic of music with your children through the sound of the saxophone. A talented Ya Ya Mandarin Seeds teacher will also lead your children to sing Mandarin songs and dance to the beautiful music. Get your tickets today!
Musician: Stephanie Chou, Saxophonist
Stephanie Chou is a composer/saxophonist/singer based in NYC. Her music combines classical and Chinese influences with jazz and pop harmonies and rhythms to create an original, bi-lingual (English/Mandarin) musical world. Chou studied mathematics at Columbia University. She has released 3 jazz albums as a leader. "CforG", a jazz-ballet, was commissioned/choreographed by former American Ballet Theatre principal Susan Jaffe. Her album ASYMPTOTE features fresh takes on classic Chinese folk songs and uniquely incorporates erhu and a jazz rhythm section. She's performed in Taipei, Beijing, throughout NYC at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Joe’s Pub, and more. She was commissioned by American Composers Forum to write COMFORT GIRL, a song cycle exploring the lives of WWII 'comfort women', which premiered in 2019.
New Asian Music Chamber Society (NACMS) 新亞室內樂協會
The New Asia Chamber Music Society (NACMS), the recipient of the 2016 Huang-Yu-Ting Memorial Award and New Music USA’s project grant, was founded in 2010 by an entrepreneurial group of young Asian-American virtuosi. Propelled by a shared passion for classical chamber music performance, the members of NACMS are prize winners of world-renowned international competitions, graduates from America’s most prestigious music schools, including The Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute, and appear regularly on major stages across the globe.
